StoryTelling Camp in Canada 2022

あと１ヶ月となりました。

「英語を使う」とは一体何を意味するのか？

今の世界企業が求めるスキル「Story Telling」とは？

英語圏の小・中・高校教育が目的とするクリティカルシンキングとReasoningを土台にしたStoryTelling.

日本の教育制度に完全に欠けているStoryTelling教育。

そう「お話が語れる」＝「英語を使える」ということを、本格的に理解できる機会をと企画したのがカナダアルバータ大平原で行うサマーキャンプです。

初回は大平原のど真ん中に建設したエコキャビンでの実施です。

地平線と大きな空と、地球の驚異さえ感じる夕焼けと、そして満点の星空のもと、生徒たちが地球と一体となります。

StoryTelling Campって一体何をするんだろう？とお思いの方に、スケジュールをちょこっと。

旅行代理店や留学業者が取り扱う一般向けの形式的なサマーキャンプとは大きく異る点に注目して下さい。

英語・クリティカルシンキング・エッセイ、そしてカナダ大学留学専門家の大澤眞知子とRobert McMillanと一緒に過ごす完全手作りのキャンプです。

このスケジュールから、プロが本気になり日本の生徒を楽しませるキャンプの深さを満喫してみて下さい。

まだパンデミックが続く中、生徒を疲れさせないペースに変更したり、日本帰国時のPCR検査などの日程をスケジュールに組み込みました。

Aug.1（月）参加生徒カナダに到着

生徒たちは頑張ってバンクーバー乗り換えでカルガリーまで飛んで来ます。

カナダ入国準備についても、入念な打ち合わせを行い万全の準備体制です。

（参加親子とMachiko&RobertとのビデオチャットMeetingも今週末開催予定です。）

カルガリー空港でMachiko and Robertが出迎え。

EcoCabinまで空港から40分のすご〜い景色を楽しみに！

「わぁ〜〜〜〜〜〜〜！」という歓声がもう聞こえてきそうです。

Aug.2（火）ゆっくりEcoCabinの周りに慣れる日

時差ボケ解消のため、太陽をいっぱい浴びて歩いてみるのもいいね。

StoryTellingは周りの観察から始まります。ノートを持って。見たこと、感じたことをいっぱいメモしてみよう。

「なぜ？」の質問もいっぱい見つける日に。

Story Activity: （ゆっくりの日ですが、授業も始まりますよ。）

* Discuss why we have stories.

* Read a monomyth story

興味のある生徒にはこんなActivityも (自由参加)

* Nature walk

* Learn to identify common prairie plants and animals

* Sports

* Learn to use a hockey stick

Aug.3（水） Story Elements （いよいよ本格的な授業です）

Morning: Introduce the main elements of a story

Discuss the elements of common stories such as “Cinderella” or “Momotaro”.

ランチが終わったら、午後のActivity （自由参加にしてますので、のんびりゆったり大平原で寝っ転がったり、昼寝したりもありです。）

Drive into one of the villages near the EcoCabin.

Observe the village and the people.　Return to the EcoCabin and discuss the village in context of story elements.

Aug.4 (木) Story Flow (The “Mountain” Story)

Morning: introduce the traditional flow of a story, Writing Exercise

Afternoon: Prairie Activities（自由参加）

* Continue your mountain story if not finished

* Baking　（カナダ式のデザート作り）

* Chopping wood

* Prairie dog catching

Aug.5 (金) Geological Story – The Rocky Mountains （さぁロッキー山脈について学びます）

Morning: Students learn the “story” of the Rockies in preparation for the visit on Aug. 7.

Afternoon:

* Learn important techniques to tell good stories

* Write their own short creation story

Aug.6 (土) 　Free time　（大平原満喫）

それぞれがStory Writingまたはカナダクラブで練習中のエッセイ練習などをするもよし

ぼ〜〜〜〜っと地平線を眺めるもよし

この後刺激的に続くスケジュールのための休養日

Aug.7 (日） The Rocky Mountains （ロッキー山脈に遠足！）

Daytrip: Visit the Rockies, expanding on our knowledge of the formation of Rockies and the life that inhabits it.

Aug.8 （月）History – Paleontology – The Ancient Story （恐竜について学ぼう）

Morning: Read stories of the dinosaur history of the area. This will help prepare for the visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum to view dinosaur fossils and the badlands, and to learn the story of the dinosaurs.

Afternoon: Writing exercise

Aug.9 (火) Drumheller （恐竜が走り回っていた場所までOuting. 大きな恐竜博物館訪問）

Visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum to learn more about the story of the dinosaurs.

Visit the badlands to learn the unique geological “story” of this area.

Aug.10 (水) The Story of Civilization

Morning: Learn the basics about the story of human civilization. Visit another small village near the EcoCabin, to see how people survive in a small place and to get ideas for the afternoon activities).

Afternoon: Plan the story elements for your own story.
