「新入社員」は英語で？

The new calendar year - the fiscal year 2012 - has just begun, and we see a lot of young people in brand-new suits in town - it's a common feature in Japan at this time of the year.

新年度がスタートし、街にはピカピカのスーツを着た若者たちであふれています。この時期の日本の風物詩ですね。東北の被災地３県でも、昨年と比べて高卒就職率も高まったようですが、さて、この「新入社員」という単語は、英語では何と言うのでしょうか？

それでは、The Japan Timesの記事の一部を見てみましょう：

"Firms kick off fiscal 2012 with 800,000 new recruits"

*kick off:「開始；初め」
*fiscal 2012:「2012年度」　cf. fiscalは「会計の；財政上の」の意味
*new recruits:「新入社員」

An *estimated 800,000 *new employees marked their first day at work Monday, the first day of fiscal 2012, after *prevailing in a difficult *job-hunting season *exacerbated by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
*estimate:「見積もる；推定する」
*new employee:「新入社員」
*prevailing:「打ち勝つ」
*job-hunting:「就職活動」
*exacerbate:「悪化させる」

ということで、「新入社員」は英語では、"new recruit", "new employee"です。
