I gave these flowers to someone special today for her *60th birthday.
*60th birthday is called "kanreki(還暦)" in Japan.
今日はお世話になっている方の60回目の誕生日です。こちらのお花をプレゼントしました。
シャクヤクとバラのブーケです/a bouquet of peonies and roses
She was very surprised and happy :)
とてもびっくりして喜んでいただきました^^
In the East Asia, 60th birthday [kanreki] is very important since we consider 60 years as one life cycle (especially when our life expectancy was much lower than 60), so if you turn to 60, that means you have just accomplished your life and are about to start a new life.
It is our tradition to give the celebrant a red hat and vest, but now we usually just give him/her something red. Red symbolizes babies. "Baby" is "aka-chan" in Japanese. "Aka" means "red".
