「灯籠流し（とうろうながし）」とは？

お盆の季節が始まりましたね。
The Obon season has started.

今日は「盆の入り（ぼんのいり）」です。
Today is the first day of Obon.

お盆については、以前のブログにも書いたので、そちらを参考にしてください：

さて、先日、友人のFacebookのwallでとっても綺麗な写真を見かけました。
I saw a very beautiful picture on a friend's Facebook.

ですので、こちらでシェアしてよいか尋ねたところ、もちろん！とのことでした。

「灯籠流し （とうろうながし）」の写真です／　This is the picture of "Toh-ro Nagashi".

「灯籠流し」（提灯を水の上に流すこと）とは、日本の慣習の一つで、亡くなった人の魂を送り返すために、お盆の最終日（８月１６日）に海や川に浮かべて流すことを言います。

"Toh-ro Nagashi", floating lanterns on the water, is one of our customs in Japan to *send off the spirits of the dead on lanterns floated on the waters of a river or the sea on the last day of the Obon Festival (August 16). (wikipediaより)
*It is said that the sprits of the dead return to this world and stay here with their descendants during the Obon Festival.

住んでいる地域によってお盆の時期が違いますが（例えば東京のお盆は７月です）、多くのお盆は今日から１６日までになります。
The season of Obon varies depending on where you live (e.g. obon in Tokyo is celebrated in July), but most obons in Japan are celebrated from August 13 throughout 16.

灯籠流しは一度も見たことがないので、いつか見てみたいですね＾＾
Since I've never seen "Toh-ro Nagashi" in my life, I hope to see it someday :)
